Money Equals Happiness?

So, working at the U of U we sometimes take care of some high profile patients. the world that we live in is so consumed with money that these patients are often deemed "VIP", as if those others that we care for are any less worthy of the best care. One VIP in particular is currently receiving room service and anything else the hospital can conjure up to make sure that this patient's stay is the best possible. Usually, I have no issue with this only because I treat all of my patients the same regardless of societal stature. However, there is the occasional patient that seems baffled that they ended up at a trauma one center because, apparently, god doesn't bring misfortune to the financially fortunate. Who knew? This generally boils over into such patients treating medical staff as their own personal servants and management playing kiss ass, which enables the patient to glisten in what I assume they perceive as their own little hierarchy within the units which I suppose is somewhat similar as to how they perceive themselves within society outside of the hospital walls. This being said, I just want to put out there that as a nurse I care for all of my patients equally. I love the gang bangers, the old ladies, the twenty year old boys that get in motorcycle wrecks - you name it. I am not in any way obligated to kiss ass, however. It baffles me that medical staff are supposed to cater to one patient more than the rest and 80% of them act as though they may lose their job if they didn't. This reminds me of a little thing I like to call the nursing shortage and may I remind my fellow nurses that there is one. Finding another job is no issue.

Wow! Long time, no post. Here I am again. Sitting at the computer, wasting the time away....OR working on my correspondence. I have graduated! WOO HOO! I am working at the U. Love my job. Living in sugarhouse. Still running, climbing, boarding and loving life. I've been thinking about traveling quite a bit lately. I'll be going to Whistler on a snowboarding vay-kay in April, but I've been thinking more along the lines of volunteer work now that I have my RN. I've been trying to focus on local volunteer work since I can't afford to travel right now. Seems like a waste to have the license and not help those when I can. Well, nice chatting.
